Valentine’s Day has just past…time to think of the people you love and to let them know that you love them (preferably by purchasing a Hallmark card!). Saying “I love you” is a powerful thing. Meaning it from your heart, so much more.
Love is something every human craves. People go to great lengths to receive the love they desire. Love is a very powerful force.
It is given and received in different ways, but every heart needs love. There is a love that says, “I’ll do this if you do that.” There is a love that says, “You make me feel great!” There is a love that says, “I like the way you take care of me.”
A mother’s love is a lot of giving without much reward. She works to exhaustion to take care of her family because of her love. In return there is that baby’s smile, that toddler’s sloppy kiss, the four-year-old’s adoring hug. A mother’s love comes pretty close to a love without conditions, a love that gives more than it takes.
There is the love between a man and a woman, a mutual love with giving and taking. A love, that at its best, can demonstrate two people fused into one distinctive unit.
These loving relationships are the stuff of life–the beauty of being alive. But these very same relationships can bring a kiss of death, a deep wound, a scar that never fades. The very vehicles created to bring love sometimes malfunction and cause all kinds of emotional chaos in our lives.
What we really need is someone to be constant in love, always ready to forgive, always giving us grace for our failures…someone who will love us no matter what. We need an unfailing love.
Do we know? Do we remember? God, the Creator of the Universe, is the very source of love. Love is who He is, love is His essence. God came into our world in the face of Jesus, the God-man who is the very source of mercy and forgiveness.
God is love. His love is constant, faithful, merciful, forgiving. He is full of unfailing love, perfect love.
I need to hear this over and over again. I need to soak it in and know that this is what is important in my life. We need to hear this. In the midst of busy lives, in the midst of burdens pressing in on us, and in the middle of February (!), we need to hear this Good News! We are loved with an Unfailing Love!
There is a continuous open invitation…to all and to any who need to be love with an unfailing love…to come to the very Source. To come and receive all the love we can possibly handle. We only have to come to the Source of love and life, trusting that He is who He says He is and that He does what He says He does. May you deeply experience His love!
I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in Him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love really is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it. Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God.–Ephesians 3:17-19
